Therapeutic Massage Modalities

Customized Therapeutic Massage

This therapy is often referred to as "Deep Tissue". We tend to shy away from that wording because many people have come to associate Deep Tissue with pointy elbows and pain. The truth is deep work can, and should be, very comfortable and relaxing.

We will continually assess and adjust the pressure as needed during your treatment. Avoiding pain is what allows the surface muscles to relax enough allowing your certified massage therapist to access deeper muscles.

Add-ons available: Synergy Hot Stones, Neuromuscular Cupping,

You will never be asked to pay extra for the use of tools or multiple modalities. We prefer to work smarter, not harder. By incorporating different modalities and tools, we are able to get faster results with less strain for us and less discomfort for you. It's a win-win situation!

Prenatal Massage

Your body changes dramatically during pregnancy and those changes can sometimes cause discomfort. Your medical massage therapist will use slow, comfortable strokes combined with the right compression address the discomforts you are experiencing.

A specially designed massage table, pregnancy pillows, and specialized bolsters are used to prevent putting pressure or stress on you or your growing baby.

If you are accustomed to firm pressure and are not experiencing any complications, current or in the past, it is considered safe to receive similar therapy throughout your pregnancy.

Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)

Prescription required.

We will use Complete Decongestive Therapy to help manage symptoms of lymphedema, which is a chronic condition that causes swelling in the arms or legs. Complete Decongestive Therapy helps to reduce swelling and improve mobility for people experiencing lymphedema.

What causes lymphedema?

  • Surgical procedures (specifically those related to breast cancer)

  • Radiation

  • Chemotherapy

  • Blunt force trauma

  • Improper torniquet application

Lymphedema Therapy usually occurs in two phases:

Phase I – The Active Phase

While this phase may last between 2 to 8 weeks, the number of weeks depends on the amount of swelling and tissue firmness, as well as how long it takes for symptoms to improve. Sessions are typically about 60 minutes with 2 to 3 sessions per week.

Phase II – The Maintenance Phase

This phase focuses on maintaining the results gained from the first phase. This phase may include self-manual lymphatic drainage, wearing compression sleeves or garments, and engaging in exercise.

Complete Decongestive Therapy is generally safe, but it may not be right for people with certain conditions such as:

  • Rapid Heart Failure

  • Low Blood Pressure

  • Deep Vein Thrombosis

  • Thyroid Disorder

  • Asthma

  • Severe Arterial Insufficiency

Add-ons Available

Synergy Stone (Hot Stone)

Your certified massage therapist will employ the use of specially designed Synergy Stones that have revolutionized Hot Stone Massage.

These tools are designed to be used as an extension of the therapist's hands. The stones are constantly held in the therapist’s hands as they are moved across the skin. Let's be honest, not much can be gained by simply placing a stone on the skin (except maybe a burn). Because this tool is held at all times by the therapist at all times, experiencing a burn injury is eliminated.

Hot stones are known for their ability to relax the muscles and create focused trigger point work with minimal discomfort. They are excellent tools for both relaxing and highly clinical therapy.

Synergy Stones were created/designed by massage therapists and are hand-crafted of durable solid ceramic stoneware near Seattle, WA.

Neuromuscular Cupping Therapy

Your certified Neuromuscular Cupping therapist will use medical grade silicone cups as a way to override pain signals by distracting the brain and increase circulation to the affected areas.

How neuromuscular cups distract the brain:

Our brains and muscles can get stuck in a pain “loop” long after everything has healed. This pain is an attempt to protect the area, but it is no longer needed. Neuromuscular cupping provides a distraction overriding that pain signal and allowing the area to “reset” itself.

How neuromuscular cups increase circulation:

Muscles that have been stuck in a pain "loop" can become oxygen deprived. This can be due to adhesions caused by the micro spasms or simply a result of the micro spasms themselves (think of it like the muscle is hyperventilating). Once the muscular is no longer spasmodic, cupping can pull fresh blood to these areas and encourage metabolic waste to move out and be processed, eliminating one of the most significant contributors to chronic pain.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Your certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage therapist will use gentle and precise strokes to encourage proper functioning within the lymphatic system. When performed properly, it can help maintain a healthy lymphatic system or aide in recovery time after strenuous physical activity, illness and post surgery.

Improper utilization of this technique can create serious complications for even a healthy client. In instances of acute post surgical edema or lymphedema, it can have catastrophic results if not done correctly. This is why we only allow therapists who have been certified in this technique to perform it.

If you have been diagnosed with lymphedema, this technique is a vital part of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT).

Activated Isolated Stretching™

Your certified AIS therapist will take you through a series of stretches designed to optimally stretch your muscles without triggering their protective stretch reflex. This technique respects you physiology, therefore providing maximum benefit with the least possibility of undue stress of injury.

You will remain fully dressed for this treatment. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement and full range of motion.

While very popular amongst professional athletes, this technique is excellent for everyone of any level of athleticism or age.

FasciaBlasting

Fascia is one of the most profound systems in the entire body.

This treatment is excellent at reducing muscle pain and fascial rebound associated with athleticism or vigorous exercise. It also releases fascial adhesions that may be contributing to muscle pain and restricted range of motion. It can be used in tandem with other modalities or as a stand-alone treatment.

A special tool is used in a brisk back-and-forth motion directly on your skin. It can create a pleasant warm and tingling sensation to the area being focused on. If large fascial adhesions are released, the metabolic waste may be seen below the surface of the skin for several days until your lymphatic system eliminates it. The marks are NOT bruises. Bruises are the result of trauma to the tissues.

If being used to reduce cellulite, it is most effective when done on a regular basis.
